Before water heaters were invented, water had to be heated over a stove or fire whenever anyone needed to wash clothes, dishes, or even bathe. Today, we’re lucky that we can simply turn a handle to get a steady supply of hot water. Our team at Baity Plumbing Company knows how much you depend on your water heater, so we offer professional water heater maintenance services to help you keep it in good condition.
In this article, we’ll briefly explain how to maintain your water heater.
- Inspect Regularly – Doing regular inspections is a key step in water heater maintenance. We encourage you to perform a visual inspection every three months to check the heater’s tank, pipes, and seals for corrosion or other signs of damage. If you notice any issues, give us a call right away.
- Flush the Tank – Another key water heater maintenance practice is to flush the tank once or twice a year to get rid of any sediment inside. To do this, turn off your heater’s thermostat and shut off its power supply. Then, attach a garden hose to the drainage spigot and run the other end of the hose outside where the water can drain out. Open the hot water tap closest to the tank, then open the spigot to let the supply of water empty out of the tank.
- Check Anode Rod – Our third water heater maintenance tip is to check the anode rod inside the tank. This rod is designed to prevent the rest of the tank from corroding, and it does this by having its own material corrode first. This means the rod will need to be replaced periodically for this mechanism to remain effective.
